Behind the Scenes at the Queensland Maritime Museum
Twilight at the Queensland Maritime Museum - February 2026
Brisbane Living Heritage was delighted to recently host members and friends for a special behind-the-scenes visit to the Queensland Maritime Museum — an experience that offered both rich historical insight and the simple pleasure of coming together in person.
We extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated team at the Queensland Maritime Museum, whose generosity and expertise made the day both engaging and memorable. Their passion for preserving Queensland’s maritime stories was evident throughout, and we are deeply grateful for the access and care they provided to our group.
A highlight of the visit was the rare opportunity to step aboard the HMAS Diamantina. Exploring this remarkable vessel from a behind-the-scenes perspective brought its operational history vividly to life. From the tight quarters to the intricate workings of the ship, the experience offered a powerful reminder of the lives lived at sea and the importance of preserving these tangible connections to our past.
We also extend our thanks to our Brisbane Living Heritage team, whose coordination and commitment ensured the event ran seamlessly, and to Cuisine on Cue for their excellent catering, which provided a welcoming space for conversation and connection.
Events like this are at the heart of what we do. In a busy and increasingly digital world, the opportunity to gather in person with members — both long-standing and new — is invaluable. It allows us to strengthen relationships, exchange ideas, and build new connections across the heritage sector. It was especially rewarding to see new faces joining us, contributing fresh perspectives, and expanding our shared network.
We look forward to continuing to create these meaningful experiences, bringing people together and celebrating the places and stories that shape our collective history.
Brisbane Living Heritage hosts three of these special behind-the-scenes events each year, offering members and guests unique access to some of our region’s most fascinating heritage places. We encourage you to keep an eye on upcoming announcements and join us for the next opportunity to connect, explore, and experience Queensland’s history from a new perspective.
We also gratefully acknowledge the ongoing support of Brisbane City Council and Cr Vicki Howard in the role of Chair for Community and the Arts, whose commitment to supporting heritage organisations across Greater Brisbane helps make initiatives like this possible. Their advocacy plays an important role in strengthening our sector and enabling opportunities for connection, access, and shared storytelling.
