Meet the History Keepers of Brisbane
Celebrating our city’s local history and heritage groups
Across Brisbane, dozens of passionate community groups are quietly preserving the stories, people, and places that shaped our city. These local historical societies and heritage groups care for archives, share local stories, and open their doors to visitors eager to understand where we’ve come from.
At Brisbane Living Heritage (BLH), we’re proud to celebrate and connect with the local history organisations that make up the living fabric of our city. Each one offers its own unique glimpse into Brisbane’s past — from early settlers and community builders to the stories of neighbourhoods that have changed and grown over time.
Why They Matter
Brisbane’s history groups are often run entirely by volunteers, driven by a deep love of place. Their research and storytelling keep our collective memory alive — not just through exhibitions and publications, but through conversations, walking tours, newsletters, and archives that capture the details of everyday life.
These groups form a vital part of our cultural landscape, reminding us that heritage isn’t only about grand buildings or famous names — it’s about the people and communities that built them.

A Connected Heritage Community

If your organisation is part of Brisbane’s heritage story — or you’d like to connect with a group near you — we’d love to hear from you.
