Governor Brisbane was fond of dancing the Scottish reel with his family and friends at Government House in Sydney, reflecting his deep appreciation for the music, poetry and dance of his homeland. It raises intriguing questions about whether he envisioned the city bearing his name as a future haven for thousands of Scottish migrants, or imagined that Scottish culture would thrive so far from its roots.
