Twilight at Brisbane Living Heritage: Behind-the-Scenes Connections

Brisbane Living Heritage’s Twilight series has become one of our most loved ways to connect members, friends, and prospective members with the city’s extraordinary heritage places. Each event offers exclusive after-hours access, guided tours, and the opportunity to meet the dedicated staff and volunteers who bring these places to life.

Our first Twilight gathering took us to The Old Museum, a Brisbane icon steeped in stories. Members and guests enjoyed a relaxed wander through the building before heading underground for a guided basement tour. For many, it was the first time seeing this hidden part of the site, and the evening was full of shared memories and discoveries.

The second event in the series was hosted at the Commissariat Stores, one of the city’s oldest surviving convict-era buildings. Members and friends were treated to an intimate guided tour, learning about the site’s layered history and its important role in Brisbane’s early days.

From there, we travelled to the bayside for our next Twilight, visiting the Redlands Coast Museum. Guests enjoyed a full tour of the museum’s fascinating collections before meeting the incredible volunteers who keep the museum thriving. Hearing their stories and passion for preserving local history was a highlight of the evening.

Most recently, we were welcomed to the beautifully refurbished Newstead House, Brisbane’s oldest surviving residence. Staff and volunteers gave members and guests a warm welcome and an in-depth tour, showcasing the results of the site’s extensive refurbishment and sharing the rich history of the house and its grounds.

Each Twilight event has been more than just a tour—it’s an opportunity to build connections between heritage organisations, volunteers, and the wider community. For prospective members, the evenings provide a relaxed introduction to Brisbane Living Heritage and a chance to see first-hand the value of being part of this network.

Our next Twilight promises to be something special. In August, we’ll be stepping behind the scenes at the recently reopened Princess Theatre. Led by Events and Venue Manager Harry Upton, members and guests will get an exclusive look at the historic theatre’s spaces and stories.

If you’ve been curious about joining Brisbane Living Heritage or simply love exploring the city’s hidden heritage, the Twilight series is the perfect way to get involved. These evenings offer rare access, great company, and a chance to celebrate the places and people keeping our history alive.

Stay tuned for details on the upcoming Princess Theatre Twilight, and we look forward to sharing another memorable evening with our members and friends.
