Reflecting on a Year of Growth and Connection: Brisbane Living Heritage AGM 2025

Brisbane Living Heritage held its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 25 September 2025 at the Brisbane Square Library, bringing together members and supporters to reflect on a year of progress, collaboration, and community connection.

The meeting opened with an address from Cr Vicki Howard, Chair of Brisbane City Council’s Community, Arts and Nighttime Economy Committee, who thanked BLH and its members for their ongoing dedication to preserving Brisbane’s stories. Cr Howard highlighted the city’s upcoming Centenary celebrations and the important role that heritage organisations will play in shaping Brisbane’s cultural legacy in the lead-up to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Outgoing Chair Cathy de Silva presented her final Chair’s Report, noting a busy year of activity and growth. She reflected on the success of the Twilight and Backstage Pass events, the redevelopment of the BLH website, and the creation of a new Strategic Plan 2025–2028, setting a clear path for the years ahead. Cathy also thanked the Board and members for their commitment to collaboration and storytelling, which continue to be at the heart of BLH’s work.

A change in leadership was confirmed, with Melissa Hoedel elected as the new Chair of Brisbane Living Heritage. The Board extended sincere thanks to Cathy for her leadership over the past year and welcomed her continued involvement as Secretary and Director.

As the meeting closed, members joined the Board for morning tea—celebrating another year of shared stories, strengthened partnerships, and a shared commitment to preserving the living heritage of our city.
