See the homes of our early settlers and appreciate life as it was.

9.00am
Arrive at Old Government House and enjoy viewing the home of past State Governors.

9.45am
While in the vicinity, walk back up George Street and see Parliament House.

10.30am
Walk along Alice Street to the Albert Street gates of the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens.

11.00am
Join a guided tour, lead by Botanic Gardens Volunteers.

12 noon
Walk down Alice Street to the Edward Street Ferry terminal. Catch an inner-city ferry down river to the Riverside Terminal. Walk down Queen Street or follow the board-walk along to Customs House. Enjoy lunch by the Brisbane River.

1.30pm
Take a bus or drive to Miegunyah at Bowen Hills.

2.45pm
Continue out of the City and find yourself at Newstead House, on Breakfast Creek Road.

On weekends you may choose to add Wolston House to the itinerary.

With a military flavour this full day will engage all ages!

Walk down Adelaide Street and find your way to ANZAC Square.

9.00am
Walking through the Square gives an opportunity to view the WWII Shrine of Memories.

9.30am
Walk up Ann Street towards the Brisbane City Hall and King George Square.

9.45am
View the Forme del Mito sculptures in King George Square.

10.00am
Take the lift up 92 metres to the observation deck in the Brisbane City Hall Clock Tower. Leave those less inclined to enjoy such heady heights to view the works on display in Brisbane City Gallery.

11.00am
Leaving King George Square behind, venture up Roma Street and enjoy solving the crime mysteries at the Queensland Police Museum.

12.30pm
Take a walk or catch a bus further up Roma Street to Petrie Terrace.

1.00pm
Visit the Victoria Barracks and enjoy viewing the displays centred around Queensland's military heritage.

2.30pm
Still keen for more military memorabilia? Head back to Roma Street Transit Centre and catch a train to Fortitude Valley and visit the Queensland Military Memorial Museum.

If you prefer to stay in the City make your way down to William Street and visit the Commissariat Store, built by convicts in 1829.

Half Day - South Bank Precinct - Sites to DelightBack to top

With these interesting sites conveniently located within an easy walk of each other, you can leave the car behind.

9.30am
Be the first in the door to visit the Queensland Maritime Museum at the Siddon Street end of South Bank. Submerge yourself in maritime history extending over more than three centuries.

11.00am
Follow the board-walk through South Bank and visit the The Tony Gould Gallery, Queensland Performing Arts Museum, for an insight into Brisbane's theatrical history.

12 noon
Follow the signs and find yourself at the Queensland Museum - our State's premier collection.

1.30pm
Enjoy a late lunch at one of the many eateries at South Bank.

These 'away from the City' sites are open on Sunday, offering a trip back in time with tours by enthusiastic volunteers.

12.30pm
Arrive at the Brisbane Tramway Museum, situated at Ferny Grove. Rediscover the romance of riding the rails

2.00pm
Leaving Ferny Grove and the trams behind get set to explore a 19th century fortress surrounded by a water filled moat.

2.45pm
Arrive at Fort Lytton and enjoy the Museum with its comprehensive displays of military and social history from the late 1800s through to the early 1900s.
